Reflection on Luke 13:18-21~
Heaven already partially here and Heaven yet to come should be thought of as a continuum. Jesus’s death and resurrection began a process whereby with faith each of us can become part of the Kingdom already here. While we wait for God to become fully visible to the world, we can be transformed from within. As Jesus’s example of planted mustard seed or the mixed yeast and dough, we joyfully grow in community towards what more is yet to come.
Luke 13 New Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition (NRSVCE)
The Parable of the Mustard Seed
18 He said therefore, “What is the kingdom of God like? And to what should I compare it? 19 It is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in the garden; it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air made nests in its branches.”
The Parable of the Yeast
20 And again he said, “To what should I compare the kingdom of God? 21 It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed in with three measures of flour until all of it was leavened.”
