Luke 9:43b-45 Reflection – Seeing Through Jesus’s Eyes

Reflection on Luke 9:43b-45 ~

Fr. Henri Nouwen passionately proclaims that we “are beloved children of God.”  We are also children of human parents making us human with divinity within.  This means if we are not watchful, our human nature can convert betrayal into deep emotions.  We shutter when we begin to understand that God’s unconditional love allowed our brother Jesus to be on the Cross.  We can let God allow us to be there also, as without seeing through Jesus’s eyes, the meaning of love could not manifest to others.

Jesus Again Foretells His Death

While everyone was amazed at all that he was doing, he said to his disciples, 44 “Let these words sink into your ears: The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into human hands.” 45 But they did not understand this saying; its meaning was concealed from them, so that they could not perceive it. And they were afraid to ask him about this saying.
