Mark 12:35-37 Reflection – To Learn our Own Dualities

Reflection on Mark 12:35-37

Jesus as the Messiah places himself both as Lord to David and son of David – Son of God and son of man (Mary). As sons and daughters of God and man, He has prepared us in the delighted crowd to witness the Old Testament fulfilled and to expect that Evil will be defeated in His death and resurrection. As servants we are joyful that we have a great king not of this world. As witnesses filled with the Holy Spirit we are to learn our own dualities merged into one.

The Question about David’s Son

35 While Jesus was teaching in the temple, he said, “How can the scribes say that the Messiah is the son of David? 36 David himself, by the Holy Spirit, declared,

‘The Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit at my right hand,
until I put your enemies under your feet.”’

37 David himself calls him Lord; so how can he be his son?” And the large crowd was listening to him with delight.
