Reflection on Mark 1:7-11
Have you worked in a soup kitchen where you served food, gave out hats and scarves for the cold or perhaps simply poured milk into their coffee all because you truly wanted to? If so, then you have a vague idea of how John feels. This is because in Baptism you have been cleansed not only by the River Jordan water but also by the Holy Spirit. Like Jesus, you are a son or daughter of God, pleasing Him by being present and doing for the other.

Mark 1 New Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition (NRSVCE)
7 He proclaimed, “The one who is more powerful than I is coming after me; I am not worthy to stoop down and untie the thong of his sandals. 8 I have baptized you with water; but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”
The Baptism of Jesus
9 In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 And just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending like a dove on him. 11 And a voice came from heaven, “You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased.”
