Matthew 26:14—27:66 Reflection – Three times | Immersive
We can have an endless supply of thoughts and participation in Jesus’s Passion. Many years ago, on an evening before Palm Sunday morning, I went to bed with the thought “why was Christ born to die”? I woke at midnight, disturbed by anguish I could not explain, but my prayer was calming. Later, I was again distressed and overwhelmed with sorrow, and prayer settled me into peace. When I rose as dawn entered, unusual regret penetrated my thoughts. In what was to become daily immersive prayer, I understood that I must be willing to have empathy and share in discomfort, even for the unknown. I also found that we can spiritually place ourselves in Gospel scenes. Despite something, not mine, I had asked the Lord to care for me three times. I now know it is to help me see Peter’s and others' mental anguish. Three times, Christ divine illumed to join and bring quiet to suffering.
