Accompany Jesus – Reflection on Luke 8:1-3
Some women following Jesus were wealthy, so it is natural to assume their primary contribution was to fund Jesus’s mission. However, given the awe and wonder of Jesus’s call, I am sure these women’s more important gifts were not financially related. For instance, their gifts included the ability to plan, gather human essentials, and proclaim the benefit of Christ’s Good News. Undoubtedly, they were helpful to other women in the visited communities as they traveled from village to village. There can be no doubt that Jesus was a primary contributor to elevating the role of women being equal, beginning with His history. Not emphasized enough in Scripture, but I have no doubt this was another reason those in power wanted Him out. Wealth is not the highest on the list of measuring contributions to helping create a better world. We can accompany Jesus in many ways, as I am sure you know from following Him and seeing diverse ways that others do. I am incredibly grateful to the women who have blessed me with their thoughts, prayers, and help when needed. I pray that Jesus continues to fill them with grace.

Luke 8:1-3 – Scripture*
Some Women Accompany Jesus
Soon afterwards he went on through cities and villages, proclaiming and bringing the good news of the kingdom of God. The twelve were with him, 2 as well as some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, 3 and Joanna, the wife of Herod’s steward Chuza, and Susanna, and many others, who provided for them out of their resources.
